Bike carriers
Bring your bike. A Thule bike carrier helps you transport one or more bikes on your car wherever you go – easily, safely and in style.
Thule offers a wide range of bike carriers for different needs. The Thule Buyer's Guide will help you find the right carrier for you.
Types of bike carrier
There are three main ways of mounting your bike on your car: on the car receiver hitch, on the roof and on the rear door. In some markets we also offer solutions for transporting your bike on the car's spare tire or truck bed.
All our bike carriers are safe, easy to use and designed to fit most cars and needs. Always take into consideration what your car allows in terms of weight and width, as well as your country's regulations.
Please note that all types of bike carriers may not be available in all markets.
Hitch-mounted bike carrier
Hitch-mounted bike carriers are the most common bike carriers and can carry 1-4 bikes. They are easy to mount and require minimal lifting of bikes to load and unload. Also, using your towbar / hitch for bike transportation keeps the roof free for other equipment, such as a roof box.
There are two types of hitch-mounted bike carriers: one where your bike is hanging on the carrier arms, and one where you place your bikes on a platform. The platform bike carriers often have integrated lights and a slot for your license plate.
As the carrier is mounted on the hitch of your car, you may have limited access to the trunk. Our more advanced carriers are equipped with a tilting or swing-away functions, allowing access to the trunk even when the bike carrier is mounted.
If you don't have a lot of space to store your hitch-mounted bike carrier when not in use, our foldable version is a great option.
Roof-mounted bike carrier
A roof-mounted bike carrier is commonly used to transport race bikes, but can be used with other bikes as well. There is a range of different carriers to fit most wheel dimensions and fork / wheel, drop- or thru-axle mounting. A roof-mounted bike carrier protects your bike from road dirt and is a stable and secure carrying solution.
The carrier is mounted on the car roof, giving you full access to the trunk of your car. One carrier carries one bike, allowing different combinations on your car roof: either mount 2-4 carriers next to each other to transport several bikes or combine your bike carrier with other accessories, such as a roof box or a kayak carrier.
The roof-mounted bike carriers are easy to mount, and it is easy to place and secure your bike in the carrier.
Please note that all roof-mounted bike carriers require rack systems.
Rear door-mounted bike carrier
If you don't want to lift your bike up onto the roof and your car doesn't have a hitch, a rear door-mounted bike carrier is the ideal solution. Foldable and easy to store when not in use, the carrier is mounted on the rear door of your car and can carry 1-4 bikes.
Please note that rear door-mounted bike carriers do not fit all cars depending on the size, construction, used materials and design of your car's rear door as well as on rear spoiler/windscreen wiper and other car-specific regulations. The Thule Buyer's Guide will tell if a rear door-mounted solution will work for your car.
Spare tire and truck bed carriers
If your car cannot carry bikes on any of the mounting locations above, the spare tire or truck bed carriers could be an option.
If your car has a spare tire on the rear of your car, you may be able to mount a bike carrier directly onto it. The spare tire solution is compact, easy to install and carries 1-2 bikes. The Thule Buyer's Guide will tell if a spare tire-mounted solution will work for your car.
Truck bed carriers are easy-access options for carrying your bikes in the bed of your pick-up truck. Compare the different options to match your needs.
Once you've decided on your bike carrier, make sure that you mount the carrier onto your car safely and follow the regulations. This will ensure that you transport your bike in an easy, safe and stylish way.
